A small seaside resort in the south of the Landes between Tarnos in the south and Labenne in the north, Ondres boasts an ideal geographical location. Situated midway between Biarritz (in the Basque country) and Hossegor (in the heart of the Landes), this spot provides tranquillity and serenity in a protected natural environment. Your senses will be reinvigorated on holiday by a cocktail of fresh ocean spray and the woody fragrance of pines.
The fine sandy beach at Ondres stretches for two kilometres and is fringed by natural dunes. It is monitored by lifeguards throughout the summer and provides the perfect place for a spot of windsurfing or other water sports activities. Surfing schools welcome enthusiasts from beginners upwards. The beach is bordered by a vast pine forest, a glory of nature that can be explored by bike along the Velodyssey cycle path (the longest marked cycle route in France) or on foot by following signposted trails.
The Equestrian Centre in Ondres also offers the chance to enjoy wonderful horse riding experiences through the pine forest. Every Sunday morning from 8am to 1pm the market at Ondres sells delicious local produce as well as accessories and ready-to-wear clothing crafted by local artisans. Now an integral part of local culture, the town’s pelota (baseball) court awaits players for a game or two. The Sports Centre in town also provides squash courts, stadiums, tennis courts, trinquet and a left wall for ball games. Fishing enthusiasts can enjoy their sport to their heart’s content with the sea, Turc Lake and Anguillere canal as options.
